Romans 2:13 says, “For merely listening to the law doesn’t make us right with God. It is obeying the law that makes us right in his sight.”
Have you ever started a project with the best of intentions, only to abandon it halfway through? We’ve all been guilty of this at one time or another, because following through on what we say is easier said than done.
There have been a lot of times I wanted to start something but then didn’t because the thought process of it all, and the list that was made seemed to be too much. It was overwhelming and I didn’t know how to even get started.
Then there are other times that it doesn’t matter what needed to be done, it was going to get done, because it needed to be done.
This is because of where my thoughts were on it. Overthinking and trying to figure it all out a head of time can stop us in our tracks in the midst or evet before we get started.
Thank goodness that when God tells us something to do, He has already thought of all the different scenarios, and we don’t have to. We just need to trust Him and go and do.
John 5:8-9 says, Jesus told him, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk!” Instantly, the man was healed! He rolled up his sleeping mat and began walking!
This man didn’t over think he just got up and went. Jesus said and he went.
I also think we can get caught up in questioning the go and do too much.
We hear these words, and we are like where, how, when, if I have the time. The words carry weight when they don’t line up with what we had in mind, or they seem impossible.
But God calls us to just do this one simple thing each day and that is to love and show mercy.
In Luke 10:37 it says, “The man replied, ‘The one who showed him mercy.’ Then Jesus said, “Yes, now go and do the same.”
Jesus sends each of us to live out his commandment to love. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, we are to reach out to others in compassion and mercy.
Let’s not be distracted by the questions and the cans and can nots that come up. Let’s be open to say here I am, send me.
James 1:22-25 – “But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.”
I grew up in church and over many years in life I have only just read the words of the Bible but didn’t let them soak in and follow them. But once I did it was life changing.
Once I started reading the Word and seeking God things became clearer and less burdensome. I want to go and do what God has for me now more than ever. Nothing else matters.
Listen and obey, go, and do. That’s it.
