Bait and switch: The world promises the contentment only God can provide

We've all turned on the TV or been online and have been inundated with advertisements for that shiny new iPhone or car that we are promised will make our lives better. The only problem is that those new items will, at some point, become worn out and obsolete. What's worse is the money we spend on temporary happiness will be long gone. Clothing companies spend countless hours targeting consumers to buy ever increasingly expensive lines of clothes. Technology and things that can provide convenience are great and have their place. But only God can provide us with real contentment. In a way, Jesus predicted consumerism. We've been anxious for a long, long time about the same things.
